Remarkable civil building
Fontaine Niki de Saint-Phalle
Installed in front of the former courthouse, now the town hall, the mobile fountain-statue is the joint work of Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint-Phalle. Given to Château-Chinon by François Mitterrand, it is remarkable firstly because there are very few of them - five in the world, two of them in France - and secondly because it appeals through its movement and its colours, which are so characteristic of Niki - bright, vivid, almost dazzling. It's cheerful, surprising and seductive. It's like the city winking at you.
