Archaeological Centre of Bibracte

Bibracte: a natural and archaeological site. At the summit of Mont Beuvray and covered with 1,000 hectares of forests, a large Gallic town has been brought to light by researchers. Surrounded with fortification walls, Bibracte was formerly the capital city of one of the most powerful people in Gaul, the Aedui. Listed in the Monuments Historiques et Sites category, Bibracte is the subject of excavation digs each year. These digs welcome researchers from all over Europe. The digs are open from June to October. Many activities are organised each year: coin minting, fibula making (Gallic brooches), reconstruction of Gallic pots… Take a free visit around the archaeological site or a paid visit with an official guide. Bibracte is also: a visit to the museum of Celtic culture and a quality temporary exhibition; European archaeological centre; events are scheduled including the Nuit des étoiles (Night of Stars)… Innovation: a shuttle between the railway stations of Autun, Etang-sur-Arroux and Bibracte site have been operating since 2010, between 14 July and 15 August, every day (return-ticket 3€)
